Double cleansing: How it saved my face…

I admit, it took me way too long to start double cleansing. I would say this is mostly because it took some time for oil cleansers to reach Croatia and because I was too lazy to look it up. But you don’t have to be (please don’t be). I will tell you, in short, everything you need to know about it! Why is it good, how did it help me, how to do it, and which products to use?

Let’s start. Why is it good? Well, double cleansing is a method of deeper cleaning your face. That said, it thoroughly removes impurities from the skin by efficiently dissolving excess oil, makeup, SPF, and product residue. One of its key advantages is reducing the likelihood of acne breakouts. It can also be beneficial for very oily skin, especially if your regular cleanser isn’t effectively removing excess oil. Plus, it makes skincare products more effective.

How did it help me? A lot. I had, let’s say, very problematic and acne-prone skin (you have to trust me)… I have tried a lot of creams, acne treatments, medication, and cleaners and rarely anything helped. But once I started practicing double cleansing, I kid you not, I saw some serious improvement in my skin texture. Finally, after a long 8 years, I went to bed with the feeling of my skin being extra clean and extra soft. I promise you after your first double cleansing you will immediately feel the difference, comparing it to your old ways of face cleaning.

How to do it? Easy. You need two cleansers, one oil-based and another water-based. First, you go in with an oil-based one. I put one pump on my palm, warm it up a little bit, and then bring it on my dry (not clean) face. You should rub it in for about a minute, and don’t be too harsh. After some time, under your fingers, you will feel little bits/balls. That is very good because it’s the sebum coming out of your pores. After a minute you wash everything off with water. Then, when your face is still wet, you can continue with a water-based cleanser.  Use it how you’d regularly wash your face. After washing that off, pat your face dry.

Which products to use? My personal favorite oil-based cleanser is Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil. I got mine on YesStyle for cca 20€. Before that, I was using Olival’s Microemulsion (10€). I also saw a lot of people using baby oil for this step. You can get Nivea’s or Johnson’s baby baby oil for around 5€. My favourite water cleanser is by far the Balea Med Ultra Sensitive face wash gel. It doesn’t have one ’bad’ ingredient and it’s only 3,45€. As another option, I would suggest Olival’s second step of facial cleansing — Amino gel (10€).

Now, when you’ve read all of this and seen that it really is that easy, will you give it a try?
