DISCLAIMER: In no way is this a real first-aid emergency kit. This ‘emergency kit’ refers to things one is personally using and needing frequently.
I discovered this trend of using empty tins from mints as a ‘wallet’ a while ago on TikTok. Not only did I find it very cute but It’s also very useful. Plus, it’s one of the easiest DIY projects!
Quite simply, take the empty tin container from mints like Barkelys or Altoids and put in your ‘must-have, can’t live without’ little things. In Europe, you can get Barkleys in every big supermarket and it will cost you around 2€. They even come in different colors (flavours). After you’ve eaten all of the mints you can fill and decorate your tin. For esthetics, I would suggest putting in a few stickers, collages, or inspirational quotes. For functionality, I would suggest putting in a magnet paper or elastic band — I will explain soon.

DIY Barkleys Emergency kit has shown to be more useful than I thought! It doesn’t take much space so I carry it everywhere. I found these are the things I like to have constantly with me (in my emergency kit):
- Lip balm (Melem)
- Concealer (Artdeco Camouflage cream)
- Nail file
- Scissors
- Band-aids
- Pills (Brufen for everything, Septolete for throat)
- Booby pins
- Hair ties
- Hair clips
Unfortunately, nothing else fits in there but other things I would consider putting in my emergency kit are small perfume, an extra pair of earbuds, a mirror, some coins, and an extremely tiny pen. I saw some people storing tobacco inside so that’s an idea (although I don’t smoke nor promote it). For more inspo, feel free to check out my Pinterest board.

The great thing is that the tin is magnetic! My Artdeco Camouflage cream came with a magnet bottom so I just stuck it inside the tin. Actually, I loved it so much that I attached a small magnet to my lip balm and added magnet paper on the bottom of the tin to keep all booby pins in place. Another functionality is adding an elastic band across the tin lid to hold your things in place.
I bet you already have everything for the DIY Emergency kit. Decide on your own ‘must-have, can’t live without’ little things, and just put them in an empty tin — you won’t regret it!
