‘All of the charms’ trend is up and rising. We see it literally everywhere. High-end designer brands are coming up with some pretty cute and fun charms/keychains, but their prices are not so fun and cute. Lattes viral keychain comes from Miu Miu, and although I love Miu Miu, 380€ for one Scoubidou box stitch keychain is way too much. I get that this one is made from leather and not plastic, but it’s still way too pricey.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s adorable and if you can, get it! But I have another option — good old DIY-ing. I remember doing Scoubidous (I don’t remember how we called it in Croatia) as a child, so it’s pretty easy (minus starting it haha). Besides that it’s easy, you can pick out any color and material you want for it! What you’ll need is:
- String (Scoubidou, Lanyard, Boondoggle, Gimp), rope, or leather stripes
- Clasp, snap-hook, key ring, or carabiner
To conclude, this is all easily available stuff which you probably already have at home. If not, buy them, it’s not expensive. When you have your ‘ingredients’ you can start with box stitching. If you’ve never done box stitch before, follow a tutorial. I posted mine on TikTok and Instagram but here is a nice one on Youtube. Braid it to the desired length and attach the clasp — that’s it.
